Description

This is a very nice antique violin that needs a little work but nothing major. The body seems to be in very nice condition with only one small crack by the left "S" sound hole. As you can see it is missing the fretboard and the tuning pegs. The edge of the top has a little chipping but easily can be repaired. There was a small break and repair on the very end of the peg head where it scrolls in a circle. You can see very faint line of where the wood was re-glued. Otherwise it would not take much to get this up and playing.
There is a paper label inside that reads "
Copie de Antonius Stradivarius Cremonensis Faciebat Anno 1721
." There is a small logo of 2 concentric circles with the letters "
AS
" and a small cross or plus sign. To the far right it reads "
Made in France
" and has the trademark of a harp or lyre with rays coming out all around it and the silhouette of a violin going horizontally across it. I believe this is one of the trademark logos of Jérome Thibouville-Lamy. I'm not positive but from some research it looks to be very similar.
The back has a striped tiger-type wood. Total length of the violin is 21.5". The body measures 13" long x 7.5" wide at the widest part x 1.5" thick. It weighs 9.5 oz. I think this would be a very nice playing violin once repaired.
