- An early Sicilian processional donkey cart ( carretto ) hand-decorated by the master decorator of Sicilian carts, Maestro Domenico Di Mauro, born in Sicily in 1913 and died at the age of 102 in 2016. He was the last of the Sicilian cart decorators, renowned and internationally known, he entered the Register of Intangible Heritage of the Sicilian Region, Book of Living Human Treasures. Among his admirers are some of the greatest personalities of the 20th century, such as Pierpaolo Pasolini, Salvatore Quasimodo, Salvatore Fiume and Carlo Levi. Colorful painted panels tell a tragic love story ending in death and arrest, the rest of the cart intricately carved and colorfully painted with large mural on the interior and a portrait medallion with BEPPO above. Signed D. Dimauro on one of the panels and signed on the underside Domenico DiMauro Pittore (Painter) Aci S. Antonio, along with a date of 4-4-1964. Aci Sant'Antoni is a comune in the Metropolitan City of Catania in the Italian region of Sicily. This is a rare opportunity to own a beautiful piece of Sicilian history, don't let it slip away. With his passing in 2016 this cart is a solid investment and will only continue to increase in value.
